Case Description
I wanted to do an implant on tooth #9 but was told that there was not enough wide space to place a same-size tooth as existing #8. The recommend me first do a brace to widen the space for #9 then implant. I wonder if this is necessary. Would the brace hurt my other existing teeth? And how much will the brace cost if this is indeed necessary (invisalign vs. tradition)? And for how long is the brace needed? Thanks for your response.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Dear rcz63:I am familiar with cases such as yours. Invisalign is a very safe, quick, effective way to acquire the space to achieve the symmetry necessary at the center of your smile. Usually it takes around a year and costs anywhere from $4500 to $6500.Also there are a number of dentists looking for cases such as yours to replace a missing tooth in the "esthetic zone." You might contact the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry to find a dentist in your area that needs a case such as yours. You could save some of the fees if you are a candidate. You can also visit the website for more information: www.Invisalign.com I hope this helps. Please feel free to call or email if you have any further questions. Sincerely, Paula

Thank you for your email. From your description, it sounds like more space is needed to place an implant in the area of #9. This can be accomplished by using standard orthodontic braces or possibly with Invisalign, depending on what is needed. The treatment time may be 6-12 months, but this is only an estimate. The cost will depend on how much movement is needed and how long it will take to accomplish. After these are determined, I can give you an estimate of cost for the ortho treatment and the implant. I recommend that you call our office to schedule a free consultation appointment where we can evaluate what needs to be done and can give you cost estimates. All needed treatment can be done in our office, which can save time and help reduce costs. We can be reached at 925-939-4989. Sincerely, Dr. Scott Pope

I do alot of implants and most of my patients don''''t need braces if they have an existing tooth. That is, if you have an existing tooth #9 that needs to be replaced with an implant then you probably don''''t need braces. If tooth #9 is missing already then their is a possiblity of braces.
