Patient Review 1:

I am visiting Oakland from abroad and had an inlay break. Although there was no immediate pain, there was a sizeable hole in the tooth and I was worried about the integrity of the rest of the tooth/inlay until the end of my holiday.

My brother, who lives in the area and has been a patient of Dr. Bernstein's for 15 years called him and asked if he could see me as an emergency. This was on a Saturday and Dr. Bernstein was away on a weekend holiday with his family. He said he could see me Sunday night after he returned home.

I hate having to go to dentists and unfortunately my teeth have always been a weakness of mine. Having to go to a new dentist in a city I don't live in is my idea of the perfect nightmare. Even with my brother's assurances, I was not happy about having to see him and I was even seriously considering calling and cancelling.

His offices are very comfortable and comforting and his manner is gracious and reassuring. During the proceedure he was attentive to my nervousness and explained everything that he was about to do with humour and calm and THERE WAS NO PAIN! In short, he was brilliant and I wish he lived in London. I cannot reccomend him highly enough.

I had badly stained teeth, since I was a child, after I was given large doses of tetracycline to combat chronic ear infections. I remember as a child brushing my teeth for hours trying to no avail, to get them white. Even though I took good care of my teeth throughout my life with semi-annual cleaning and trying all kinds of teeth whitening products, nothing could be done about the stains which are internal to each tooth. I had a horrible experience at another dentist office, when a cracked tooth required a crown and the lab technician crudely exclaimed that your teeth are so stained they do not match any of the porcelain colors - they are gray. This remark pushed me after a lifetime of embarrassment of my stained teeth, to take the big step towards veneers.

I researched cosmetic dentist on the internet and found Josh Bernstein to have, what I think, is the best credentials and experience in the Bay Area. He has an informative website with information on the procedures he performs and testimonial from his patients. From the moment I walked into to his office I was impressed by the high level of professionalism and service from him and his staff. In the initial consultation he spent a significant amount of time explaining veneers, showing me before and after photos of patients, and thoroughly examining my teeth. There was never any pressure, only information given, which allowed me to make an informed decision on my dental needs.

With the information provided I chose to have veneers put on all my teeth. The task of putting veneers on all your teeth is not an easy procedure. It requires two strenuous day of work for the dentist. Thankfully, due to the sedation that I was given, I was blissfully unaware of most of it. I do not remember much of the procedure, but I do remember being treated kindly and respectfully at all times.

I am thrilled with the results! It was one of the best decisions I have made in my life (okay, except for marrying my husband). Dr. Bernstein is meticulous in his level of detail and it shows in the final results, (if I might say) my beautiful smile. It is also a plus that he is a genuinely good, kind and decent man.

An added benefit of the veneer procedure is that it straightened out my smile. I used to have a smile that was crooked, with one side of my mouth higher than the other. After the cosmetic work my smile is now even. I do not know if this is because of a correction in my bite or an improvement in my self confidence, but I suspect both contribute to this improvement.

Yes, veneers are expensive, but I do not think Dr. Bernstein is more expensive than other dentists that offer a comparable cosmetic dentistry service. His excellent dental work is well worth the price. I could not be more enthusiastic and grateful. I am completely satisfied!

When I first met Dr Bernstein I was suffering from severe depression. I had been in and out of many hospitals and so you could say I was a wreck, not just mentally, emotionally , and physically but also orally!

Due to the effects of many of the medications I was treated with I had ground my tetth to just about nothing....it was painful and devastating! In my case there were only 2 options...pull all my teeth and get false ones....YUCK! ( I am only 38 yrs) or have a full mouth restoration done.

Dr. Bernstein restored my entire mouth with empress veneers and onlays.

While I was still sick I usually did not want to see anyone or go anywhere, but I always looked forward to my visits at Dr. Bernsteins office. It truly does have a spa quality to it which makes you feel very relaxed. His staff if also great. Dr. Bernstein is the most kind, compassionate and understanding human on this planet. He is a master in his field and he accepts nothing but perfection.

I consider him not only my dentist but also my friend!

Everyday someone comments on my smile....it makes me feel good! Although it is very expensive to have this prceedure done it is worth every dime. Are you worth it? My red carpet smile and I am!

At the age of 65, I "decided" I was going to live to be 95, and I was going to have something I've never had: a beautiful smile.

Researching various cosmetic dentists on the internet, I found Dr. Bernstein actually teaches at LVI and that to me is far better than someone who only had classes in cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Bernstein is by far the best dentist I have ever been to. He and his staff go out of their way to make the experience a truly pleasant one. There was not one second of discomfort! He transformed my smile so that now I can actually begin to smile at people! His office is state of the art; he is exceptionally gentle and caring and the results are unbelievably beautiful. If you are considering porcelain veneers (he had to remove my unattractive ones first and then put on beautiful ones) do not accept anyone other than Dr. Bernstein. He is truly beyond compare.

Dr. Bernstein is just a "real person" and naturally talented at what he does. It's clear he loves his work. Actually, he saved me from making an enormous mistake...braches. For some patients, orthodontic braces are the best option, but braces are not for everyone. If a patient has tetracycline stains, many large old ugly fillings that need replacing, or severely worn teeth, orthodontics may only result in straight but ugly teeth. In cases such as these, it is helpful to consult with a general/cosmetic dentist to discuss other options such as porcelain veneers.

I have been a patient of Dr. Bernstein for over 10 years. I recently had an extensive amount of work done with excellent results. I had neglected to have my teeth cleaned for several years (don't do that), or to have my teeth inspected by Dr Bernstein which resulted in some bad cavaties. I have never had the best teeth and missing my checkups put my teeth and gums in unnecessary jeapordy. Fortunatly, Dr. Bernstein was able to save my teeth and repair them without needing any root canals. He also removed my silver fillings which I have had since I was a child as they were begining to deteriorate. I am very pleased with my most recent dental restoration and maintainance. I am also grateful for the wonderful care that Dr. Bernstein has provided over the years.

Dr. Bernstein is the most talented, knowledgeable and compassionate doctor I have ever encountered. He is clearly on the forefront of all new techniques and technology in the cosmetic dentistry field. The beatiful veneers Dr. Bernstein did on my upper front teeth gave me renewed confidence by taking away my self-consciousness and worry about catching my lip on a tooth that got in the way when I spoke. I have been so pleased with the results and the care that I got, that when it came time to choose a new dentist, it was an easy decision. His office is a haven of quiet and beauty; it relaxes me the moment I walk in the door. I went to Dr. Bernstein because he uses digital xrays. Although he is and bills himself as a cosmetic dentist, his staff said it would be fine to see him for general dental care. He does not take insurance, though they will bill them for your (paltry) reimbursement. The first visit consists of a consultation, about $100,which my very good plan, delta dental paid no part of. Bernstein's office led me to believe I would get some reimbursement. I had a small cavity, encompassing tw o surfaces. I almost fell out of the dental chair when told the cost for the fillings would be $500. If you have a lot of money, Dr. Bernstein is an otherwise excellent dentist. He is kind and very gentle, his office (finances notwithstanding) is very relaxing, his equipment is state-of-the-art, and I have no doubt he is excellent technically.

We are happy to take care of the insurance paperwork for our patients and we ask insurance companies to send any reimbursement checks directly to the patients. In our experience, we have found that we cannot accurately estimate benefits--so we do not. We have learned that consultations are rarely a covered benefit, although they are one of the lowest cost and highest value services we provide.

Josh is a good friend and an amazing dentist. He is one of the veteren instructors at The Las Vegas institute, the best cosmetic and restorative institute in the world. If I were to have my smile restored again, I would have Josh do it. I LOVE Dr. Bernstein and his non-metal tooth scraper! I don't know what it is called but it shoots high powered water to clean teeth so you don't jump out of your seat with every cleaning.

I was so apprehensive when I decided to make the appointment with Dr. Bernstein, but after my initial conversation with him and his staff, I was immediatley put at ease. When I arrived for my first visit, I was welcomed with warm smiles, I new then that everything was going to be just fine. I now have my new porcelain crowns on my front teeth, a bright smile and look forward to getting my invisilign braces for my bottom teeth. Service, attitude and the facility were all first rate and kept me comfortable and relaxed throughout the process. My initial concern was pain, and compassion (it has been a long time since the last dental visit and it was terrible). Dr. Bernstein was extraordinary. We started with a half hour consultation in his office. Then there were no-discomfort digital Xrays. Then a long discussion about needs, plans, and cost. I chose to use the Triazalom medication: a sleep-like state, but not deep deep sleep. The equivalent of 4 or 5 office visits was done in one two-hour session. Zero pain. Total satisfaction. Yes, pricey, but well worth it to me. Dr. Bernstein and I agreed that he would not be my regular dentist for routine things. A bit like driving to the supermarket in a Maserati, I think. But I recommend him enthusiastically for major work, and for anyone who has concerns about pain, and having neglected treatment for too long. (And the water-powered flossing machine he sold me sure beats the old-fashioned way.)

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate Dr. Bernstein and his staff for what they have done for me! After having my beautiful veneers, my confidence level has soared. He is a true artist and his reputation for being one of the best in the country is well deserved! I was treated like royalty from the very first minute we met.
